Cullera, Spain
El Clan, established in 2014, is the Spanish team training in Valencia and working with Spanish charity, Espurna.
Conceived by brothers Simon and Michael, who were also part of the first steps of tri, El Clan presented the opportunity to introduce the idea of unified rugby internationally.
Presenting their vision to Espurna, they were surprised by how excited the charity was to become involved and make the Spanish team a reality. The core of Espurna management had a special love for the sport of rugby and its strong values, and many of them also had previous experience.
With a shared love for the sport as well as the ethos of tri, it took only a few meetings to set up the first training sessions, which proved to be incredibly successful. Just six months after starting training, "El Clan" traveled to Vitoria in the north of Spain, invited by Gastedi Rugby Club for the first unified rugby tournament in Spain, celebrating a day of shared enthusiasm and outstanding team spirit!
Since then, more and more people are getting involved, training together and creating a great atmosphere with The True Spirit.
Shropshire, England
When Clan player Alex moved to Shropshire in early 2015, he was eager to take the tri ethos with him to introduce unified rugby in his new home.
With support from local charity Energize to find volunteers, Alex teamed up with volunteer coach Darren who has a skill and passion for Rugby. The challenge was taken on and the bonds were made for the Shropshire Clan to lay down its roots.
With everyone involved knowing the team would make a huge difference to many, things moved quickly. Within a week the first training sessions were planned and contacts made to build up two county hubs between Telford and Bishops Castle, which have gone from strength to strength. Over 30 players arrive to train each week, from a number of backgrounds and abilities but all with a love for rugby.
A truly impressive part of tri, the Shropshire Stags broke new ground when they introduced the charity's work in their area. With the first match against the Llanelli Warriors, a well established mixed ability Rugby team in South Wales, a great success, the team is aiming high for the future.
